This Father’s Day, rev up the garage

By Paula Felps

It used to be that the garage was just a place to park the car. But these days, the garage often holds a coveted spot somewhere between a man cave and a showplace. If you want to make Father’s Day extra special this year, why not surprise Dad by giving his garage a tune-up? Here are some great additions to turn this overlooked space into his personal Garage Mahal.

  • MicroFridge refrigerator. It looks like a tool chest, complete with heavy-duty locking casters and a door lock, but inside there’s room for two-liter bottles and other smaller bottled or canned beverages of his choice.
  • Wall storage. Go to a store like Lowes and pick up some slatwall panels. With some hooks and options like baskets, shelves, and racks, you can transform the walls of the garage into a sleek, well-organized haven. Best of all, you can finish out just part of a wall – or deck out the whole room – depending on your budget.
  • Wall décor. What’s his passion? Whether it’s Ford or Ferrari, you can find plenty of signs, clocks, mirrors and wall art to get his motor running. Many of these signs can even be personalized with his name to let everyone who’s the boss of this garage!
  • Tools. Is there something missing from Dad’s toolbox? Whether you’re merely replacing a missing wrench or are interested in updating his entire set of tools, this is one surprise that he is bound to love. (We’re betting it’s sure to make him much happier than a tie!)  It may be time to update Dad’s toolbox too.  Tools are easier to find when organized.
