Spring cleaning means ridding your home of unwanted clutter and cleaning every corner that has been ignored. With a little organization and planning, the work can be managed.
Tsh Oxenreider, editor of SimpleMom.net and author of Organized Simplicity says during spring cleaning season, we are more inspired and energized by the fresh spring air.
“It helps lay a better foundation so that it doesn’t get as messy so that when it does, it’s easier to clean throughout the year,” Oxenreider says.
Boxes for each room (or as needed): labeled Keep, Trash, and Give
To start, quickly sweep through the house to collect throwaway items. Then, spend the rest of your days cleaning by room.
“I think one thing people should remember, that I’ve learned, is that it’s going to get messy again and to not be discouraged by that,” Oxenreider says.
Room By Room
Work from top to bottom, reorganizing and gathering items that need to go out the door. Make a checklist of what needs to be done in each room:
Throw away trash, old magazines, etc. Donate old clothes.
Dust ceiling fans and other high surfaces. Work your way down to windows and lower surfaces.
Wash bedding and upholstery and flip mattresses and cushions.
Vacuum carpet and polish wood floors or countertops.
This may be the only time of the year that some corners of your home receive any attention. You will get the job done — all you need is a little organization.
