Save money on your utility bills with these updates

These days, energy-efficient appliances and saving money are on everyone’s mind. One way to do that is by replacing old washing machines and other appliances with new, technologically advanced models. Here are three finds that not only look great, but will save you money!

LG Front-Load Steam Washer

Rated as one of the most energy-efficient front-load washing machines around, this model from LG uses just 13.5 gallons of water per cycle—less than half of the 31 gallons per cycle used by conventional models. Using six motions (instead of just tumbling) to suit your cleaning needs, this washer actually tailors each cycle to each load’s individual needs. What’s even better is it will save you an estimated $108 a year in water and energy costs.

Honeywell Prestige Programmable Thermostat

High-definition isn’t just for TVs anymore—this new thermostat from Honeywell sports a colorful, high-def touchscreen. But what’s most remarkable is its interview-based interface, which walks you through a series of questions (“What time do you go to sleep at night?”) and then programs itself accordingly—no instruction manual needed! It can cut heating and cooling bills by up to 33 percent (or about $200) annually, depending on where you live.

LG Steam Dishwasher

This EnergyStar-rated dishwasher from LG offers a number of environmentally friendly features, such as an energy-conserving half-load cleaning option and a hybrid condensing drying system. The TrueSteam technology lets you add steam to any wash cycle, and there’s even a “delicate” cycle to protect fragile items. What a great-looking way to cut energy costs and help the planet.
